Weddings continue to be on the rise, with more than 240,000 weddings celebrated in 2023 and 2024. This trend has shown no signs of slowing down in recent years.

If you're reading this article, it means your turn is coming up soon! Congratulations!

You're probably wondering when to get married. Is there a better time?

If you don’t have any specific requirements, my answer would be “whenever you like!” In fact, weddings are no longer held primarily in the summer. They can take place year-round, with a very broad season ranging from April to October in the Drôme region and its surroundings, thanks to our wonderful Provençal climate!

More broadly speaking, in France, there are more weddings in June and July, which can make it more difficult to find an available venue during those months.

In this article, I’ll outline the pros and cons of each option. You can then decide for yourself.

Summer, combined with the charm of Provence.

Drôme wedding

The perfect season to celebrate the happiest day of your life. Most couples-to-be are looking for sunshine, long days, and the chance to stay outdoors until late into the night!

Ironically, that same heat is also the number one enemy; I recommend choosing a wedding venue with shaded, cool areas to avoid heat exhaustion.

And even if you’re dreaming of an evening lit by the stars and the moon, it’s best to have a backup venue in case of bad weather (last year’s newlyweds will unfortunately confirm this…)

Another tip: to encourage your guests who might be planning a vacation during this time to attend, it’s best to send out a Save the Date well in advance.

May, June, and September, the mildest months of the year...

And my favorites!Drôme wedding

They offer a wealth of amenities and a mild yet pleasant climate, making them ideal for outdoor ceremonies and receptions. The region’s beauty is at its peak. Take advantage of this enchanting setting to celebrate your wedding in the Drôme.

April and October are becoming increasingly popular!

The reason is the availability of wedding venues and their discounted rates. You can have the beautiful Provençal farmhouse, the restored barn, or the castle of your dreams!

Wedding receptions are held indoors, but it’s certainly possible to make use of the outdoors for certain parts of the day (the ceremony, photos, the reception). However, you should always have a backup plan in case of bad weather, as the weather can be very unpredictable. It’s best to choose a venue that offers multiple rooms, so you can keep the reception hall a surprise until the evening.

Don't overlook the winter months!

winter weddingA wedding with a Christmas, snow, or winter wonderland theme is just as enchanting! Your guests will be delighted to share this special experience with you.

Of course, you choose a wedding venue for its reception hall, which will provide a warm and sparkling setting for you and your guests.

Another answer to the question of "when" to get married in the Drôme...

wedding ProvenceWith a trend that we’ve been seeing more and more in recent years… that weekday weddings (mainly from April through September). At most wedding venues, it’s possible to book for a few days during the week. This is your chance to enjoy a beautiful Provençal reception venue at a reasonable price!

For those who are skeptical, rest assured: your guests will be happy to go along with it and will be delighted to take a few days off to celebrate your wedding in style. Some even take the opportunity to explore the area for the rest of the week—making for a truly memorable experience!

So, which era will you fall in love with?
