More and more couples are moving away from the summer months and choosing to celebrate their weddings during the milder months.
As a result, fall weddings are all the rage and growing in popularity. They are ideal for more intimate weddings where the focus is on getting together and sharing quality time with loved ones.
However, you’ll need to make a few adjustments to ensure your big day goes off without a hitch. Here are my top 5 tips as a wedding plannerto help make sure your fall wedding is a success!
For men, this isn't really an issue. Since they often struggle with the heat in the summer while wearing their handsome wedding suits, the problem is solved! You can opt for thicker fabrics (such as wool) and dark shades or terracotta so trendy!
For you ladies, it’s a different story. It’s not wise to wear a light wedding dress and risk getting chilled to the bone. You can choose a beautiful sleeved dress (there’s no shortage of styles) or go for a bolder look, such as an elegant pantsuit. You can also use accessories to stay warm: a cape, shawl, coat, closed-toe shoes, gloves…
It’s up to you to choose based on your personality.
(herbal tea, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or even mulled wine) . You can offer these to your wedding guests as they arrive, before or after the ceremony (especially if it’s held outdoors), or during the group photos. They’re perfect for warming up and are sure to create a friendly atmosphere!
Choose a decor style that warm tones (terracotta, orange, burgundy, brown…) that can be paired with neutral tones (beige, off-white) for those who prefer a more understated decor.
When choosing table linens (napkins and tablecloths), opt for soft, cozy textures. For decorative elements, you can incorporate other materials and focus on natural elements: wood, foliage, pinecones, pottery, and even fruits and vegetables! Seasonal flowers include dahlias, roses, hydrangeas, zinnias, and more.
Let your imagination run wild, or leave the decorating to the experts.
Lighting is also important—try arranging a variety of candles in different sizes and shapes, along with string lights and other warm lighting to create a cozy atmosphere.
The dishes are foodies and a source of enjoyment. Cold buffets are being replaced by hot dishes.
Seasonal foods (pumpkin, butternut squash, mushrooms, chestnuts, etc.) and dishes served with sauce are the focus.
You could serve a dish placed in the center of each table in an attractive container, allowing guests to help themselves. This enhances the intimate and friendly atmosphere of your wedding.
Local wines from the region reflect this authenticity.
Even though we all dream of an “Indian summer”-style fall wedding with mild, sunny weather, the weather on the big day might not be so cooperative. That’s why I always recommend choosing your reception venue with a Plan B in mind. In fact, the wedding venue should be able to offer satisfactory backup options in case of unpredictable weather: at a minimum, a room for the reception or several well-insulated rooms and/or covered patios if you’re planning a non-religious ceremony. The reception hall should also have heating.

Getting married in the fall adds a touch of magic and enchantment to your wedding. It’s all about togetherness and sharing. Let yourself be swept away!
Here’s a little insider tip: venues and vendors are less in demand during this time of year, so rates are sometimes lower. And here’s the good news: there’s still time to plan for 2025! So, will you go for an autumn wedding?
