Keep in mind that to make the best choice—rather than settling for whatever’s available—it’s best to book your venue about 18 months before the event date, especially for a wedding. 

Of course, first and foremost, this choice depends on your personal taste: a Provençal farmhouse, a villa, a castle, or perhaps a unique venue (a houseboat, a barn, a loft…). You’ll be celebrating a memorable moment in your life there, so you need to feel comfortable there. 

Price is, of course, a factor. However,

Technical and practical details are of paramount importance and can affect the smooth running of your event. Here are the key factors you must consider—ones I’ve learned to identify through my experienceas an event planner and wedding planner

  • the seating capacity in the reception hall
  • the number of rooms (to allow for a children's area or in case of bad weather)
  • accommodation options on-site or nearby for your guests
  • geographical accessibility (a location far from main roads can complicate organization)
  • the rental duration (1 day, 2 days, or more)
  • sound regulations (acoustic limiter, time limit)
  • the possibility of outdoor dining, if desired
  • the presence of a professional kitchen for the caterer
  • the freedom to choose service providers (caterers, DJs, etc.)

There are other factors to consider when choosing a venue in the Drôme, as their absence could result in significant additional costs or constraints: 

  • enough tables and chairs for all your guests, and chairs that match your theme
  • outdoor furniture: benches, chairs, high tables…
  • shaded or rain-sheltered areas (otherwise, you will need to plan for tent or pagoda rentals)
  • the presence of staff for furniture setup, cleaning, and tidying

 

Not to mention regulatory requirements: accessibility for people with disabilities and safety standards (fire alarms, emergency exits, fire extinguishers).
